Happy Birthday Marx Brothers!

It’s amazing to think that one year has passed since the Marx Brothers clan was founded. Marx Brothers was created as the third clan in the game of Powersoccer and is the only clan to remain in its current form: we never changed our name, it never altered its principles and policies, it never even left this internet address. Marx Brothers was close to perfect from the very beginning.

One year ago, Airfix_9 and Sipwell wanted to found a clan that would bring together interesting people each with a story of their own. They wanted to distance themselves from the need to win ranking points, that mental drug, and to show off their cup and clan victories. Is this what really matters, they wondered?

Marx Brothers was created to offer more. It sought to form a brotherhood of people separated from each other by time and distance, yet brought together by the common conviction that fun, friendship and a sense of community were of far greater importance. It sought to create added value and to offer the community something over the meaningless posts about cup victories. The ethos was to amuse, to make a difference. And Marx Brothers did just that. Time and again, the blog led to forum discussions, discussions in private and public chat and reactions from other clans. Dozens of people signed the “Free Hogweed” petition or commented in the forum! Hundreds of people changed their profile picture and added a moustache! Thousands of people came to the blog to have a little diversion from their daily routine, their daily frustrations, their daily concerns! Marx Brothers brought Powersoccer to a higher level. People understood that Powersoccer was not only a game to play, but (above all) a community in which to interact.

People never seem to understand that Marx Brothers clan is not a sweater you change every other day but a skin that is, in good and in bad days, stuck to your body as long as you live. You are a Marx Brother for life. It becomes part of who you are as a person. It becomes a part of your character. Soccerduke27 is Marx Brothers, Bigdaddyat breathes Marx Brothers, Soroe walks Marx Brothers, Anionic smells Marx Brothers… Very few of our members ever defected to another clan and most stayed faithful to the household name that Marx Brothers is. Members have declined invitations from other top-ranked or powerful users to participate in or to help found a new top clan. The honour of being a Marx Brother was far greater than the honour of being a captain of a top ten ranked clan. Marx Brothers is what you are, not what you strive for or need to achieve.

Throughout its existence, Marx Brothers has remained consistent in its interpretation of the fundamental underpinnings of the clan. Ranking points never were an issue. Having fun – all the time, every time – was core to its beliefs. Wittiness has been a defining characteristic of all its members and ex-members. Support to the good of the game – or the perfecting of the game – has been one of its central convictions, activity in one of the levels of the game its logic consequence.

Marx Brothers can boast a large number of Master Assistants, active for a considerable amount of time in that role. The membership comprises a large number of young and old people willing to devote time and energy to the good-functioning and the enhancement of the game. Marx Brothers man the forums, they create new flashes posted on PSE. Added value, all the time, every time.

Marx Brothers is now, without question, one of the most appreciated clans in Powersoccer. The number of applications still received is uncountable as is the number of regular visitors to the blog. People look to the Marx Brothers to see how to react to changes in every level of the game. Marx Brothers take the lead and show the way and have until this day never been mistaken.

What will the future bring? The same, but better. Just as Powersoccer is struggling to reach perfection, Marx Brothers will strive to perfect itself eternally. Marx Brothers has become more than the sum of its members’ ambitions, skills, beliefs and talents: it developed into a creed that empowers all of us day in, day out. It bears large fruits and you will be the recipient of its harvest. You will be amused, you will be lead, you will be surprised. You never can get it wrong with the Marx Brothers.

Over the next few days, a number of first rank players will shed their light on the Marx Brothers. Some former opponents/aggressors and some powerful bystanders will describe how they see and were confronted with the Marx Brothers. We leave nobody untouched, not even the most powerful.
